Play Checkers Against the Computer
Play checkers against the computer - The rules of checkers are well known: capture all of your opponent's pieces, or block them so they can't move. This online version uses American rules, which differ from International or Italian draughts in a few ways: 1. capturing an opponent's piece is not mandatory, even when the chance arises; 2. there is no "huffing" rule (removing a piece if the player chooses not to capture); 3. a regular piece can capture a king; 4. a double jump, while useful, is not mandatory even when possible; 5. you are free to remove your opponent's pieces in any order, with no priority rules to follow.
To start a game against the computer, read the instructions that appear in the white box below the board. Sometimes Black moves first, sometimes White does (you'll see "White to move first."). Then click the piece you want to move: wait for it to light up, then click the destination square. Careful: once a piece has been moved, you can't undo it and try again. When a game ends, press the "Start a new game" button to restart.
To keep track of the game, press the "Show sound, stats and leaderboard" button above the board: you'll see the elapsed time, the number of moves made, and a small button to turn on a discreet sound on every move (off by default). If you win and your result is among the top 600, a window will automatically prompt you to enter a username: confirming will save your result to the leaderboard. You can check the leaderboard at any time, even mid-game, using the "Leaderboard" button. For each player, only their three best results appear on the leaderboard.
If the board doesn't fit your device's screen, reload the page.
