Justin Randall Timberlake, nato il 31 gennaio 1981 a Memphis nel Tennessee (città dove morì Elvis Presley e patria di Jerry Lee Lewis), è stato il leader della band *N Sync, una delle principali boyband americane degli anni '90, prima di iniziare la carriera solista. Ha venduto oltre 15 milioni di dischi. Si racconta che a 12 anni entrò a far parte del cast della trasmissione "Mickey Mouse Club" assieme a Britney Spears e Christina Aguilera.
Justin Timberlake è balzato agli onori della cronaca per essere stato fidanzato quattro anni con Britney Spears (alla quale ha dedicato il brano "Cry Me a River"). Con gli *N Sync faceva del pop accattivante e da solista ha dimostrato di essere capace di fare del rhythm and blues simile nel timbro e nelle movenze a quello di Michael Jackson, considerato una fonte di ispirazione. Con gli *N Sync ha sfornato una hit dopo l'altra; il quintetto era composto, oltre che da Timberlake, da JC Chasez, da Lance Bass, da Chris Kirkpatrick e da Joey Fatone. "I Want You Back", "Tearin' Up My Heart", "Bye, Bye, Bye" e "Pop" lanciarono i ragazzi nel gotha delle popstar e nell'heavy rotation di MTV.
Justin, ragazzo semplice, sensibile alle cause umanitarie, ha fondato la Justin Timberlake Foundation, un'associazione benefica rivolta ad accrescere la coscienza sociale attraverso la musica. Dopo la rottura con Britney Spears, ha tentato la strada solista. L'album di debutto venne curato dai migliori producer in circolazione. Con l'uscita del secondo singolo estratto, "Cry Me A River", la consacrazione fu definitiva: Justin viene accostato a Micheal Jackson per i passi di danza che si vedono nelle sue esibizioni.

Subito dopo arriva la partecipazione al nuovo album dei Black Eyed Peas. Mentre prepara il secondo disco solista, il suo maggiore impegno lo riversa nel cinema: nel thriller "Edison" (2005) recita a fianco di Kevin Spacey, Morgan Freeman e LL Cool J; è tra i protagonisti di "Alpha 6", una crime story con la regia di Nick Cassavetes; recita in "Black Snake Moan"; affianca Samuel L. Jackson e Christina Ricci ed è nel cast dei doppiatori di "Shrek 3". Si tratta, però, solo di una fase temporanea; sul finire dell'estate 2006 esce "FutureSex/LoveSounds", un album dal sound innovativo con basi prodotte pure dallo stesso Timberlake. Il disco ottiene subito il successo ed i singoli "Sexyback", "My Love" e "What Goes Around..." si impongono nelle clessifiche.
Nel 2007 Justin Timberlake parte col tour "FutureSex/LoveShow" e monopolizza il gossip prima per la crisi con Cameron Diaz (cui ha dedicato "My Love") e poi per la presunta relazione con Scarlett Johansson. Sempre nel 2007 ha fondato l'etichetta discografica Tennman Records.
