Avril Lavigne

Avril Ramona Lavigne è nata a Belleville (in Canada, nello stato dell'Ontario) il 27 settembre 1984. Seconda di tre figli, frequenta le chiese e le comunità dove farà le prime esperienze di canto. La svolta arriva grazie al capo della Arista Records, L.A. Reid che le offre quasi 2 milioni di dollari ed un contratto da 1,4 milioni per il prossimo lavoro, dopo averla sentita cantare. A 16 anni lascia New York e si trasferisce a Los Angeles per incontrare un rinomato scrittore di canzoni: Cliff Magness. Con lui ha subito un grande feeling ed assieme compongono alcuni pezzi.
Nel giugno del 2002 esce il singolo "Complicated" che ottiene subito un successo enorme. Il video entra in heavy rotation (trasmissione continua) su MTV e batte tutti i record per quanto riguarda i passaggi radiofonici negli USA. Nello stesso periodo esce l'album intitolato "Let Go". Successivamente vengono pubblicati i singoli "Sk8er Boy", "I'm with You" e "Losing Grip". Avril intraprende un tour mondiale chiamato "Try to Shut Me Up Tour", nel quale si registra il tutto esaurito in tutte le tappe. In questo periodo, la cantante fa incetta di premi in ogni manifestazione. "Let Go" vende circa 15 milioni di copie in tutto il mondo e conquista 8 candidature ai Grammy e 4 Juno Awards (incluso il premio di Album of the Year and New Artist of the Year).
Nell'autunno 2003, Avril inizia a lavorare per il secondo album. Nascono "Take Me Away", "Don't Tell Me" e "Freak Out". Per questo secondo album collabora con una cantautrice conosciuta durante il 2003 e divenuta sua grande amica: Chantal Kreviazuk. Si fidanza con il cantante dei Sum 41 Deryck Whibley e, nell'estate 2004, lascia la sua abitazione di Toronto e va a vivere a Los Angeles con lui. L'album esce il 21 maggio 2004 in Italia e s'intitola "Under My Skin" (otto volte disco di platino). Avril lo promuove negli USA facendo un mini tour acustico nei grandi centri commerciali, chiamato "Mall Tour". Alla fine del 2004, l'album ha venduto più di 7 milioni di copie.
Sempre nel 2005, Avril approda al mondo del cinema d'animazione: prima contribuendo alla colonna sonora del film "Spongebob", poi dando voce a Heather, un personaggio del film "La gang del bosco". Nel dicembre 2005 prende parte alle riprese del film "The Flock", con Richard Gere e Claire Danes. Il 15 luglio 2006 Avril sposa il fidanzato Deryck Whibley dei Sum 41, in una tenuta privata a Fresno, in California. Durante l'autunno 2006, Avril si mette a lavorare al suo terzo album, nel quale collabora con Ben Moody, Butch Walker, Dr. Luke, Rob Cavallo, Travis Barker, e con il marito Deryck Whibley. Nello stesso periodo viene contattata dalla casa di produzione cinematografica FOX, per scrivere una canzone per il film "Eragon". Nasce così "Keep Holding On", che farà parte della colonna sonora del film. Il primo singolo "Girlfriend" è uscito il 5 marzo 2007, anticipando l'album "The Best Damn Thing", apparso il 13 aprile 2007 in Italia e il 17 aprile negli USA. Il secondo singolo, "When You're Gone", è uscito in radio il 14 Giugno.
